Wokingham is a market town and a civil parish in Berkshire, South East England. It is also the main town of the wider borough of Wokingham, which has an estimated population of around 163,000. The town of Wokingham itself has a much smaller population of approximately 30,500 people living in the area.
Wokingham was orginally a borough before the 1974 reorganisation of local government, with this, it merged with Wokingham Rural District to form the new Wokingham Distric – Wokingham Borough then became Wokingham Town. Several major expansion projects around the town are planned to go ahead over the next decade, including on land to the north and south, and at the former military base at nearby Arborfield Garrison.
