Toilet cleaners of the world unite!

Anyone looking to rent a portable toilet in the weeks ahead might want to spare a thought for non-flush loo cleaners in India.

Hundreds of such workers have kicked off protests in Delhi in a bid to improve their employment conditions.

According to the BBC, the cleaners earn – wait for it – an average of £2.50 per month.

Although the work is now illegal, the Indian government projects that 300,000 people still carry out such tasks.
